Playa de Santiago is one of the main tourist areas in the municipality of Alajeró, in the south of La Gomera. Its seaside location and range of services make it one of the island’s key tourist destinations.

Its development was closely linked to fishing and the canning industry, activities that played an important role in the town’s recent history. Today, it remains an excellent place to enjoy fresh fish and seafood cuisine. Highlights in Alajeró include the parish church of El Salvador, home to a 17th-century figure of Christ, and the chapel of San Lorenzo.

Playa de Santiago
The coast can be reached from Club Laurel by lift. From there, the beach in Playa de Santiago is just a few minutes’ walk away.

Playa de Tapahuga
Around five minutes by car from the hotel, this beach of dark sand, gravel and rocks is set in peaceful, largely undeveloped surroundings. Playa de Tapahuga can also be reached from our hotel. Enjoy a different experience as you watch the sunrise or sunset with Mount Teide on Tenerife in the distance and the sound of the sea in the background. The walk is accessible to all guests staying at the hotel.

Playa del Medio
Located between ravines, this is a secluded beach of dark sand and gravel. By car, access is via the GM-3 to the area near Tapahuga and then along an unpaved track.

Playa de Chinguarime
Nestled at the end of a ravine, this secluded beach can be reached on foot along an unpaved path or by boat. Its natural, largely undeveloped surroundings invite you to enjoy the scenery in peace and quiet.

San Sebastián is the island’s capital and its main gateway by sea. Christopher Columbus stopped at La Gomera on three of his four voyages to the Americas. Casa de Colón, a 17th-century building traditionally associated with his stay on the island, is now a cultural and exhibition space. Other sites of historical interest include Casa de la Aguada, the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción and Torre del Conde, a Castilian fortress built between 1447 and 1450. The Archaeological Museum and Historical Archive complete San Sebastián’s cultural offering.

The island’s capital has dark-sand beaches as well as natural areas of great interest within the municipality, including Majona Natural Park, the Chejelipes ravine and Puntallana, home to the chapel of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, the patron saint of La Gomera.

Valle Gran Rey stretches between imposing cliffs and palm groves. The La Gomera giant lizard, an endangered species endemic to the island, was rediscovered on the La Mérica cliff in 1999. In the upper part of the valley, Guadá gives way to a landscape of terraced fields and palm trees, which can be admired from the Mirador del Palmarejo viewpoint, designed by Lanzarote-born artist César Manrique.

Valle Gran Rey is one of La Gomera’s main tourist destinations and retains its characteristic landscape of ravines, palm groves, terraced fields and small settlements. Much of the municipality’s accommodation, restaurants and services are concentrated along the coast.

Further inland, small villages and hamlets such as Arure, Taguluche and Las Hayas are particularly noteworthy.

Valle Gran Rey offers numerous opportunities for hiking and mountain biking. Boat trips also depart from its coastline, offering the chance to discover La Gomera’s shores and explore the area around the Los Órganos Natural Monument.

In the central highlands of La Gomera lies one of the finest examples of Canarian laurel forest, a humid woodland of great ecological value linked to ancient subtropical forests. Moisture carried by the mists creates ideal conditions for lush vegetation and exceptional biodiversity. Garajonay National Park was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1986.

At the heart of the park lies the hamlet of El Cedro, the starting point for several trails that cross one of the island’s most humid environments and run alongside small streams. Another notable spot is the Laguna Grande recreational area.

We recommend visiting the Juego de Bolas Visitor Centre, located in La Palmita, in the municipality of Agulo, just a few kilometres from the park.
